Templates¶
You don't have to start from a blank agent. On Home, switch to New agent — or open the create screen in the Builder — and you'll find a template gallery below the "describe your agent" box.
Cards and covers¶
Each template is a card with a cover:
- If the template has a published interface, the cover is a screenshot of that interface. If the snapshot doesn't have a screenshot yet, Donkit uses the cover of the agent the template was published from.
- Some templates are headless — they work in chat and have no visual interface of their own. Those cards show a generated cover instead of a screenshot, and the preview notes that there is no frontend.
On a card that has a screenshot, use the expand control to see a larger preview.
Preview¶
Click a template to open a preview: a short description, then What's included — the tools and skills it ships with, shown by name with icons. Then Create from template.
- Picking a template creates a ready-made agent — its instructions, tools, and interface already set up — which you then customize in the Builder like any other agent.
- For some templates you'll be asked to pick an interface style as part of setup; others apply their own bundled look automatically. Headless templates skip that step — they have no interface to pick.
A template can bundle instructions, skills, connected tools, workflows, a knowledge base, sample data, and a custom interface — so it's often a substantial head start, not just a prompt.
The onboarding flow also offers a few one-click starting points — Universal Agent, Design Studio, and AI CRM — which behave like quick-start templates.
The template catalog is curated: browsing and starting from templates is open to everyone, while publishing a new template is a platform-side action.
If setup doesn't finish¶
A template can bring a lot with it — an interface, custom code, a database with sample data. Occasionally one of those pieces can't be installed: a service is briefly unavailable, or the template's data setup doesn't apply cleanly.
When that happens you get an error instead of a new agent, and the half-finished agent is removed — it won't sit in your agent list missing its interface or its data. Anything that already existed is left alone: your other agents, and any skill you already had in your library, are untouched. Trying again is safe.
Very rarely, the error says that clearing up after the failed attempt did not finish. That message means something may still be left behind, so it names what it could not remove — send it to support rather than retrying in a loop.
